Police arrest 17 suspected kidnappers, rescue 5 victims in Nasarawa


 The Nasarawa State Police Command has detained 17 alleged kidnappers and freed five victims without incident.

This was said by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the command's police public relations officer, as he paraded the suspects on behalf of Baba Maiyaki, the police commissioner, on Thursday in Lafia

According to Nansel, between February 10 and April 19 numerous operations were conducted across the state, and the suspects were apprehended.

He said that five victims were found unharmed in each of the operations, and that the suspects had surrendered four weapons and eight rounds of live ammunition.

According to Nansel, an investigation showed that some of the suspects were accountable for a string of kidnappings that occurred along the Nasarawa Eggon-Akwanga road, in various areas of Lafia and its surroundings, as well as in the state's southern axis.

He added that some of the accused had admitted to being part of a kidnapping gang that had relocated to Awe in Nasarawa State after security agents had neutralized their fellow gang members in Bali, Taraba.

In order to clear the state of criminal elements, Nansel gave the people the assurance that the Command, under CP Maiyaki, would continue its partnership with other security agencies.

Nansel stated that the Command had sent personnel to a number of prayer locations and recreational areas in advance of the Eid-el Fitr celebrations to prevent any disturbances.

Residents of the state were promised adequate protection throughout the time period, and he urged them to uphold the law and report any suspicious activity to security officials for immediate action.
