Veteran Nigerian comic actor Abiodun Richard Ayoyinka widely known as Papa Ajasco, has sparked reactions online after announcing that he will no longer go by the popular name.

The actor revealed that the name “Papa Ajasco,” made famous through the hit series Papa Ajasco & Company, is owned by producer Wale Adenuga, making it difficult for him to use it commercially outside the production.

As a result, he has officially rebranded himself as Bondu Alaska and is calling on filmmakers and the entertainment industry to start working with him under his new identity.

The announcement has triggered mixed reactions, with many Nigerians questioning whether the new name will stick, given how deeply “Papa Ajasco” is rooted in home screens.

Interestingly, many have compared the situation to the famous Bariga bus stop that was renamed after Olamide but is still widely referred to by its old name, Charlie Boy bustop.
