Ekiti gov poll, unacceptable---Jolayemi, Segun Oni's spokesman

THE Segun Oni Campaign Organisaton, on Sunday, rejected the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election saying it is unacceptable.


Reacting to the outcome of the exercise, spokesman of the campaign organization, Mr Moses Jolayemi, in a chat with Vanguard, accused the APC of engaging in vote buying.


He also accused security agencies of compromise during the election.

Besides, he said the SDP candidate will not concede defeat saying the party will meet to take necessary steps.

Mr Biodun Oyebanji, winner of the just concluded gubernatorial election, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has commended the people of Ekiti state for electing him.


Biodun in his post on Twitter said: 'Thank You, Ekiti Kete'.


Recall that the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared him winner of Saturday’s election.


Oyebanji polled 187,057 to defeat candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Mr Segun Oni, who scored 82,211, while candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Bisi Kolawole scored 67,457.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has been declared winner of the Ekiti State governorship poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).


Declaring the winner, Prof. Oyebode Adebowale, the INEC returning officer, said Oyebanji polled a total of 187, 057 to win the election.


According to him, others were the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Chief Bisi Kolawole, who polled 67,457; Accord (A) scored 166; African Action Congress (AAC) 409; All Progressives Grand Alliance,(APGA) 17 while Action Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 141 votes.


Also, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) scored 5,597; Allied Peoples Movement (APM) -290; Labour Party (LP) polled 195 votes; New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) scored 529 and National Rescue Movement (NRM) 347.


The rest were, Young Progressives Party (YPP)-618; All Peoples Party (APP) polled 1,980 and Zenith Labour Party,(ZLP) polled 282; Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) polled 856.


According to the INEC Returning Officer, the total numbers of registered voters were 989,224, accredited voters, 363,438, valid votes were, 351865 and voided votes were 8888.

Today, over 749,000 voters in Ekiti state would decide who succeeds Governor Kayode Fayemi in an election that promises to be an epic battle.

The key players are incumbent Dr. Fayemi and former governor of the state, Niyi Adebayo, who are leading the campaign for the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Biodun Oyebanji.

Another former governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, is working for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Bisi Kolawole, while the the standard-bearer of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Chief Segun Oni, was also a former governor.

Also, there’s the candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Dr Wole Oluyede, a medical practitioner; the Young Progressives Party, YPP, standard-bearer, Mr Debo Ajayi; and the Action Peoples Party, ADP, candidate, Prince Adeyinka Alli, a young ex-banker.

In all, about 16 political parties are involved in Ekiti governorship election, and besides the big three of APC, PDP and SDP, the candidates have said they are in for the win and not just to participate.
