Fire destroys N38.8m goods in Ilorin

The early hours of Saturday saw a paint store in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, suffer from a fire calamity that destroyed property worth N38.8 million.

The event happened at the paint store near Balogun Afin in the Ita-Kure District of the city of Ilorin at around 12:31 in the morning.

Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the State Fire Service's spokesman, claimed that the shop suddenly caught fire and destroyed two adjacent residential structures, including a story building and a cottage.

He added that five further shops nearby, in addition to the two residential buildings that were destroyed by the raging fire, were also impacted.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and stop it from spreading to the other structures.

The leading fire officer of the crew blamed the late call from the sympathizers and the chemical makeup of the burning materials for the extent of the inferno's destruction.
