Controversy as Cross River lady dies in Abuja hotel

Promise Ekong, a young woman from Cross River State's Boki Local Government Area, has been reported dead.

It has been reported that Promise, who finished the National Youth Service Corps' (NYSC) mandatory training three months ago, passed away in the Stanzel Hotel on Fifth Avenue in Abuja's Gwarinpa neighborhood.

Promise, according to hotel management, drowned in their swimming pool.

However, the incident which occurred on February 8 has been shrouded with controversy as the family of the victim disagreed with the hotel management, suggesting foul play.

When contacted by AMTENTERTAIN, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development.

She said the incident was reported at the Gwarimpa Divisional Police Headquarters by one Abang Paul, a male resident of SNCO 1 Lungi Barracks Abuja.

The PPRO claims that Promise, age 21, was swimming in the hotel's pool when her unexpected stoppage of movement was detected.

"After receiving the information, a team of CSI investigators sprung into action and went to the incident's scene. After being brought to the hospital, the tragic news of Ekong's passing was revealed.

The body has been brought to the mortuary, and an inquiry into the terrible incident's circumstances has already begun. Developments would subsequently be announced, the speaker continued.
